Want a new USB flash drive for only $1?
Posted on April 16th, 2009 4 commentsMight sound a little crazy but it’s a really good idea! I’ve talked about doing benchmarks on USB flash drives in the past. We’ve benchmarked a few in the UBCD4Win forum and I would really like to add to that list. However I can’t afford to go out and buy every flash drive under the sun and I do not have a need for 100+ drives!! Tonight I finally had the idea to do a “raffle.” Basically here is how it will work. Every 2-4 weeks I will start a sign up period and announce what 3 drives I will be testing. Anyone can enter the drawing by paying $1 to me via PayPal. At the end I will close the drawing, purchase the drives, benchmark them, and then announce the winners. I will also take your suggestions on what drives to benchmark. I am honestly not in this to make any money, all I want and need is the money to cover the purchase and delivery of the drives. I am more interested in know what are the fastest USB drives out there. So that leaves me a little torn on how to end each raffle? Do I end it as soon as the money needed is made, which could be 3 days or 3 weeks. Or would it be more fair to have it a set length of time? Currently I do not have the answer for that but we will figure something out and everything will be explained. Please send me your comments and suggestions so we can get this started soon!!

Hi Benjamin,
Instead of buying al those things it could be a solution that you describe how to test and wich tools and versions to be used. So we can help you testing.
As an systemadministrator in a Multinational company i could test several stick we have here.Regards, Arie

No disrespect or anything, but I would like to see the results for myself to know they are truthful. I think your idea is good and it may probably be the better road to take? Right now I do not see myself doing this because you are the only person to comment on this idea. Evidently it wasn’t a good idea?
I guess I’m just throwing ideas out there hoping that my readers will latch on to something? I would like to help more and provide more helpful/useful information, but my ideas are really going no where. Maybe everyone only wants me and reads here to find out about UBCD4Win and (hopefully) UBDVD. I will say though, I do plan to start selling those Atom computers VERY soon. The response wasn’t as good as I hoped but I think it’s enough to invest my time and money into it. The biggest reason I wanted a big response was so I could have the ability to buy more which would give me lower prices which would in turn allow me to sell them cheaper. However the price I have is very good so I know I will at least sell a few. -
Hey, I love the UBCD4W and I think you have a good idea here.

The USB stick benchmarking does sound like a good idea that I’d throw a buck at. What would also be cool is if you explain the technologies in a USB stick and what makes one drive better than another plus release your methods, tools and data so everyone could do the same with there own and future USB sticks. If that sounds agreeable to you than you have one of my hard earned US green backs for sure. Btw, I am interested in getting a netbook at a GREAT deal so I will be checking my RSS reader for your updates on that one. Do you happen to know how those netbooks perform with HiDev video? I hear that future netbooks will have GPU support for better handling of HD content. Thanks for your efforts, I appreciate what you’re doing.
