  • UBUSB, what is it?

I think that very few of our users know and/or pay much attention to what we include in UBCD4Win?  I will admit that part of this is my fault because I honestly do not always have the time to put up all the proper documentation on our website.  UBUSB.exe has been included in UBCD4Win for at least a year now and has been actively developed in our support forum.  I will say that Tom has done an excellent job with the tool and it works pretty well.  However because of the lack of me being able to update the UBCD4Win site in a timely manner and sometimes not having all the information I need for it I think very few people have really used UBUSB.  Very few of our users utilize our support forum anyways.

So I am happy and proud to help Tom announce the latest build of UBUSB!  It is still technically a beta but we need your help testing it more and making sure it is stable.  A really cool and nice compatibility that he has been able to work into it is that it will work with Windows 7 to a certain degree.  It does not have full Win7 support, but the tool will run and create your bootable USB drive while you are in the “XP Compatibility mode.”  All you have to do is attach it to the VM and it will work.  He does promise better support for Vista and Win7 but only in 32bit versions.  We need to do more testing with that.

If you are interested in having a bootable USB version of UBCD4Win, I highly suggest you check out the post in our forum here:

In that announcement you will find some information, instructions, and download links for the tool. Please test it out and let us know what you think and if you happen to run into any problems.

    1. I agree that the documentation could be better; I’m just glad UBUSB has been there for anyone who cares enough to look for it. I’ve used it for quite a while now. It loads faster than a CD, is more useful since you can write to a flash drive, and I especially love the multiboot capabilities. The next thing I’m looking forward to is UBCD4Win7. I heard it was in development, but I can’t find any information about it.

Documentation will get better. I plan to put up more information here, on the UBCD4WinDownloads.com site, and Tom will have a UBUSB site up soon also.
One big announcement tonight though is we have finally decided to open up the Burrows Solutions Support Forum. I plan on posting something more here in a few days. We decided a while ago that we thought it would be better to have one “central” forum for all of our tools. We’ve just been trying to get everything ready for that official launch. I am sad to report that everyone will still need to have some patience when it comes to UBDVD4Win7. Our current development team consists of only 4 people and one of them is out on hiatus. So our development has been slow. Our focus right now is to get UBCD4Win 3.60 released asap so we can move on to the new things. It will be released, I just cant promise when right now. Everyone continue to keep an eye on this blog, I will soon be looking for more beta testers. Details will come in the next week or two.

Yes I have been using the USB option for a while, including the support boot CD for older system that can’t boot from USB. Took a bit of investigating to get it working (trawling forums). I prefer the USB option as it is faster and i can write data to flash drive. Many thanks for your continuing work on this software. Look forward to win7 version.

    4. I have been using UBCD4WIN on USB for a long time. I had it to big for CDs way before 3.5 was released. It was a pain but when the usb.exe was added it made my life much easier when making updated versions.

Keep up the good work, its very appreciated.

The Documentation could be more helpful.

But what I hate is when some one ask a question on a support board and all the answer they get is “use the search feature noob”. This is not a proper answer, at lest add a link. I browse support boards all the time and some are so big that its hard to find that post from 3 years that may answer the question. So stop being a punk and ether answer the question or supply a link.

Sorry for the rank and off topic at that.
