UBCD4Win 3.60 Guide
***6/20/10 Update- This page has been updated slightly for the new release. More information and tips will come in the upcoming weeks***
There have been a few big changes in this latest release and I feel that a few points need to be covered in this new version. A few “default” programs have changed and new groups have been added. Here are the most important points of the new release:
- BTS Drivers- Do NOT “config” the drivers. Storage, LAN, and WLAN drivers are included in our download. However because of size restraints there are a few limitations. First the WLAN drivers are included but DISABLED by default because their inclusion adds about 80-90MB’s to the ISO file size. Next, the 7z files for each pack are not included in our download. What does this mean to you? Well without those 7z files there, if you “config” the BTS drivers it will delete the existing drivers and add none because it doesn’t have the 7z files to pull the drivers from. Sorry, it’s complicated so the best advice is what I said in the first sentence. We are working on a better method for this to use in the future. For now though, please only disable or enable the individually listed driver packs.
- Super AntiSpyware. We are still having some problems with SAS. On some systems it will just exit with no warning or reason. This is taking longer to fix and we apologize for it, we are working with SAS developers to see if we can help get this fixed.
- Default build ISO is 690+MB’s. You will have to do some “trimming” if you modify the default plugin list. I’m sorry but we still do not have a list of how much space each plugin takes and it can not be integrated into the builder. So you will need to look over the list and decide what you feel will be useful or burn to a DVD. If you will never need network support, you can save about 40MB’s by disabling the LAN drivers. For that matter then save yourself another 50MB’s by disabling the networking tools. It really depends on what you feel you will be using UBCD4Win for. I personally only keep the AV, AS, disk tools, and information tools in my build.
- E.
- Changes to default enabled/disabled plugins. CD.
- Dynamic plugins. I must say that I really love these, just wish that I could write them! We have had several different types of dynamic plugins in our build for a while. Most of them come from the handy work of hilander999, and he did very well with the Kaspersky plugin. That one plugin will detect what version of Kaspersky you have on your system (version 7 or 2009 are currently supported) and pull the files from the appropriate locations. Not only that but he built it to be compatible with XP, Vista, and 64 bit Vista! I really hope he is able to do this kind of work with a few other plugins in future releases.
- plugins.
- Cleanup Tools. This was something I’ve been meaning to add for quite some time now. I was a little hesitant because some of these tools expire and they are probably redundant to most of you. However I do find it handy to have them on my CD so I don’t have to dig around for my USB flash drive or look around in my network drives for tools. A few people have asked why they aren’t in the booted UBCD4Win menu and are only available from the menu on a system booted into Windows. Well it’s because they are designed to be run in Windows, we haven’t figured out a way to get them to properly run in UBCD4Win. That fact holds true for several tools in UBCD4Win such as HiJackThis, CCleaner, and others. Those tools ran in UBCD4Win could cause more harm than good, so by default they are only available from the Windows menu.
- Added/Removed tools. As you go over the Excel file in the download you will see all of the changes we have made. I did not modify the changes.txt file this time. The site is in the process of being updated as well.
